It starts simple. You want an answer to one question. For me, it was “are there any other fish other than salmon that are good for you?” It ended up with me spending $20 to read an article on saphenous vein restenosis.

I can tell you a lot about saphenous vein restenosis. But you’ll only be interested in that if you had open heart surgery or a coronary artery bypass graft surgery, kind of like I did almost 3 months ago. At 33.

I’m still trying to get over it. Actually, I’m not going to get over it, ever, I don’t think. But I think I can live with it. I mean, I have to, right?

I find myself spending copious amounts of time clicking link after link and searching for more and more information as I position myself to be a great scholar on modern healthful living. I keep going around in circles, reading simple articles to reading in-depth medical articles on everything from fish, to arteries, to triglycerides, to being South Asian. Yes, all of these issues have something to do with heart disease.

I keep thinking that at some point I’ll find the cure, I’ll find the answers to all my questions. I’ll find the solution to all my problems.

Does it happen?

Well… Yes and no. There are no easy answers. And there is no one article that explains it all. There are caveats and wrong turns and it requires a lot of patience and persistence as well. Basic education is required, and repetitive reading is also required. The facts have to go into your head. The facts have to become embedded there.  There are many facts, numbers, and figures that need to become solidified, so you do not forget them.

There’s certainly a lot to learn, and now I’m glad I got my biology degree just so I can decipher what I am reading. Each subject I read about has increasing depth and I find myself getting lost in the subject. I’m writing this blog so that some of that information can be consolidated and made easier to understand.

As I delve into each new subject, I intend to write a little bit about my findings, and hopefully give information that will be of use to people who eat… i.e. everyone!

Wish me luck!
