About Me

Heart attack at 33

I’ve had to change everything about my life as fast as I could after I had cardiac bypass surgery.  This blog is about what I’ve learned, who I’ve become, and how I’ve managed not only to cope with my life, but enjoy it by transforming my bad habits into healthy, sustainable ones.

I work with my family at the Successful Aging Center and the Fitness Learning Center in Bloomington, Illinois. We’ve created programs and classes to help the public transform their lives. I’ve helped put together our classes and presentations since its inception. It is kind of ironic that I work in wellness yet Iwas so… unwell, and I knew it. I ate poorly, did not exercise, and was a smoker to boot. I couldn’t claim that I didn’t know better because I did.

But, in the end, it was a blessing to have parents who are so passionate about health and wellness. With their support and knowledge, I was able to completely transform my lifestyle and achieve very remarkable results.  I could either have given up or try to change. I chose the latter. I don’t know if I would have had the will to change the way I did had I not known what I knew. My background in biology also helped me trudge through lots of scientific articles to decipher truth from untruth.

I hope to open a dialogue and help inspire people to make changes in their lives. I’ve found out that it isn’t nearly as hard as you might think it is to make a change that will make you feel better and live longer!
