Meditation technique for the Heart

Posted on : 07-10-2010 | By : Anand | In : Uncategorized

The anahata chakra is located in the heart region. This chakra is blocked when we seek attention from others. It opens when we exude selfless love.

Activating this chakra involves a simple meditation technique called Mahamantra.

Sit with your eyes closed

hum for 20 minutes

sit silently for 10 minutes

Instructions: while humming, put your full intensity into the humming to the point where you no longer feel like you are humming but feel like the humming is happening of its own accord. After 20 minutes are over, relax for 10 minutes while putting your relaxed attention in your heart region. Thoughts and emotions will come, go with them, relax into them, try not to judge yourself for your emotions, allow yourself to experience the depth of your emotions. Whenever your attention wanders away from your heart region, relax, and bring your awareness back to it.

Am I a Local Celebrity?

I was standing in line at the Coffee Nation coffee shop way out near Towanda-Barnes Road. I was going to have my usual super healthy skim milk, Splenda latte, when I noticed the local newspaper, The Pantagraph, sitting on the counter. The health section was out, and I saw myself staring back at me. It was a very strange moment indeed – how often do you see yourself on the newspaper?

I just waited patiently for my coffee and the woman in front of me happened to pick up the newspaper, read the caption underneath my photograph, and casually threw the paper aside. I guess after reading the caption, she was no longer interested in the story. I guess she didn’t notice me standing behind her!  It was pretty amusing actually.

It was a good lesson though. As heady as the day was, with my article in the paper and all, I knew that its impact was more on me than it was on most other people. To most other people, I was another faceless face, gracing the pages of our local paper. I know that when I read the paper, I’m not too interested in it – it’s more of something I read while I’m doing something else, while I’m thinking about where I have to be, what work I have to do for that day.

So – I’m no celebrity, but people do seem to be interested. A lot of Linda’s co-workers emailed her today and said they were very inspired by the story. So, something good did come out of it.
